Featured in the October 2010 issue of Crafts n Things Magazine, these votives are simple to create Fall elegance. Follow along here as I show you a few process shots and a description of how I made these.
I started with 4 1/2 and 6 inch glass votives I purchased at Walmart for about $1.00 each. They have a slight bell shaped curve, which makes added the beaded string on top a little easier. I wrapped a few yards of gold tulle netting around the glass. I purchased the netting in a roll in the bridal section. Really easy...
To make the votives a little more elegant, I painted acorn dowels with DecoArt's Americana Acrylics in Espresso then dry brushed with French Vanilla.
For the beaded string, I cut about 10" of Beadalon's Elasticity Clear Beading Wire and threaded on alternating fall like colors of Swarovski beads.
After tying the string around the neck of the votive, I added this really great die cut flower.
I love this die cut from Sizzix for dimension! Here is how it works. There are also directions and photos on the package.
Cut the flower from brown wool felt. Here is what you get...
Now take a toothpick or skewer and starting with the outside of the flower, wrap around somewhat tightly.
Continue wrapping and glue in spots with fabric glue to secure. Glue to center of votive, on tulle with fabric glue.
Use a strong glue like Aleenes Liquid Fusion to glue the wood acorn dowel "feet" to the bottom of the votive. Tie on some sheer ribbon and use to decorate your beautiful Fall Home!
Live Life Creatively,
Melony
