Last Minute Halloween Outdoor Decorating Ideas

Take advantage of existing exterior details. My sister, who lives in balmy South Georgia, has a vivid green front door which pops against her stucco and brick home. We decided that we would take advantage of the seasonal green and create some low cost details from craft foam and Elmers foam core.

 

We added a simple spider with some orange wiggle eyes and pipe cleaner legs.

 
We coordinated the rocking chairs by temporarily stapling black canvas to the front and velcro'd on some canvas bat motifs. After Halloween, she can remove the bats and use the orange pillows in other decorating.

 
Spotlights placed on fun and friendly ghosts made from foam core make them the true stars of this display. Them and the sweet hanging bats, also made from foam core.

 
The bats did not make it through the night due to the winds but I got some stronger tape today and we will give it another try.

Somehow a sweet alien showed up to appreciate all our efforts.

We used a combination of Elmers foam core board and plain craft foam for the face. For the hair, i used an x acto knife to cut a foam core sheet into triangles and painted it black. Because the kids go in and out of the door so much, We had to nail that part to the top of the door. I traced dinner and desert plates onto craft foam and cut that out with with scissors. I used craft foam for the mouth, teeth and spider. We just used duck tape to put those parts on. It seems to hold up to the moisture when it rains and does not tear the paint off the door when removed. Hope this helps!

Such a great door! I have a green door and want to copy, but am wondering how you got the paper to stick to your door? I tried tape and that just slipped right off. Any suggestions?
