I love it when another artist or DIYer reaches out to me and says that I inspired them to create something new. For me, it is the best part of what I do. When I pinned the Halloween door I made for my sister's house a couple of years ago, little did I know that it would become such as successful pin. This led to other creative folks creating and sharing their own Halloween Door Inspiration on Pinterest and on their own blogs in some cases. This made me curious of course so I searched for "frankenstein door decoration" on Pinterest and was so thrilled by all the unique versions out there.
It wasn't until a few months later that I noticed some other similar looking door designs popping up. They looked a lot like mine so wondered if the door I pinned inspired them? If so, then that is the coolest thing for me as a designer. I love inspiring others and seeing how another creative soul interprets that into their own work. Everyone is unique so there is always something new or different added. Following this pin link to the Designlively.com I discovered that the blogger was kind enough to mention that she was inspired by my pin and decided to create her own version. I love how the door mat coordinates so well with the color of the door.
Talented crafty people always make a design work for them if they are really inspired. I like how some did a version, even of they didn't have the same green door as my sister. This door on the mylifeandkids.com blog was created using a brown door. I read the post and was delighted to see that this blogger also made the bats and covered the pillows in seasonal fabric like I did on my original post. Exciting!
I was unable to find the source of this pin, but it obviously was a scan from a print publication judging by the high quality photography and the text on the right side of the page. If anyone is able to help me find the magazine, I would really love to hear from you.
And there were dozens and dozens of other Frankendoors that I loved but couldn't trace them back to the sources.
One big take-away for me following this little exercise what that even though I pinned the original Frankenstein door to Pinterest there were lots of other pins that had performed better on the site (i.e. they had more pins than I did). So that made me do a little research. I stumbled across this great list of "9 ways to go Viral on Pinterest."
Do you have a similar story to share? I would love to hear it!

Melony
